The concept is a metaphor for an anticipated change in the United Kingdom, a change that will occur primarily by people returning to God, as found through Jesus Christ. There will be much social transformation needed in the wake of this return to God and His ways.
The problem and a search for God-inspired solutions
The spiritual tide has been going out for at least 40 years in the United Kingdom, and we are now in a place where its ethical direction seems to be challenged or eroded on an almost daily basis. It’s time for a complete change of moral and spiritual direction. The old ways without God haven’t worked out. But how could things be any different? Following a much longer quest to answer this question, I have spent most of 2020 researching and writing about how God has broken into the country over the past 500 years. It is a remarkable story, full of items that deserve to be better known.
The book Change of the Tide: Revivals in the UK can be bought on Amazon, as a paperback or on Kindle. The book is primarily written for Christians in their 20s-30s, while being accessible to Christians of any age and of interest to anyone who cares about the UK, its history and its present direction. Signed copies of the book, printed by Clays, can be ordered from the author, that would be especially worthwhile accessing for a bulk order with a view to wider use in a church, class, mid-week group or book club.
Blogs I have been contributing entries to a blog since 2017 that can be accessed on changeofthetide.blog The goal of much of the entries is to help lead in the direction of social transformation.
UK Data Over the same time period, I have produced three annual compilations of UK data, as it should be possible to see revival is measurable in the statistics – when it comes. Any real revival cannot be contained within churches. It changes society for the better, for instance in there being less crime. This data will also provide a base line for descriptions of the UK prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Change is certainly on its way.
Revival topics I have also contributed blog entries to KCC blogs on some revival topics, in amongst entries written by others. Mine are on aspects that could not be explored in my book, perhaps because they are on aspects raised by its readers. This Is one reason why I welcome feedback: readers get me thinking, and then I want to write some more.
Feedback I would especially welcome feedback that could correct or enhance what is covered in my book, where contributions are based on fully referenced sources. There are plenty of those sources around, as much has been written about past revivals online or in print.
Music Revival has been mediated not only through the spoken word but also through worship and song. The best work available at this moment is provided, in my opinion, by the worship team Bright Star at St. Peter’s Brighton. Their album ‘Change’ is presented and discussed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubdjpb6fVIY The central song to listen and look out for is Change (Live).
